Remind your child practicing piano
1. Sing the note names are played. Students need to say the names of then notes as they’re played so that they know to picture what keys are under their fingers in beginning hand positions C and Middle C. Without this easy knowledge, students will not have the ability to proceed to learning how to read notes about the staff.
2. Keep eyes on the music, not the palms. After students have their hands position, they have to keep their eyes on the music and not look down at their hands. This way they are creating a keyboard in their imaginations. This is essential for studying notes on the staff, which is a map of the piano keyboard.
3. Sit back to the piano seat and reach out into the piano. Students will not be able to use their small muscles in the hands unless they are reaching out to the piano with their arms stretched and elbows slightly bent with elbows pointing out to the walls rather than the ground.
4. Round the hands over the keyboard. The palms need to stretch to the piano keys in the upper knuckle then retract back to a rounded hand position. This allows for control and finger flexibility.
Play each tune 5 to 7 times a day. It doesn’t take long to get a young student to practice their beginning lessons. But every song needs to be performed with about 7 times utilizing playing approaches.
For the average student whose teacher has assigned both tunes, this will take around 5 minutes per song. That’s a ten second practice session. And that’s really beginning students need to do to learn their lessons. However, without these tactics they never learn what they need to understand and could sit at the piano for hours.
