1. Sing the notice names are played. Students need to state the names of then notes as they’re played so they learn to picture what keys are under their fingers in beginning hand ranks C and Middle C. Without this simple understanding, students won’t have the ability to go on to learning to read notes on the staff.
2. Keep eyes. Once students have their hand position, they need to keep their eyes to the music, not look down at their hands. This way they’re creating a computer keyboard in their imaginations. This is also essential for reading notes on the staff, which is merely a map of the piano keyboard.
3. Sit back on the piano seat and reach out into the piano. Pupils will not be able to use their little muscles in the hands unless they are reaching out into the piano with their arms stretched and elbows slightly bent with elbows pointing to the walls and not the ground.
4. Round the hands over the keyboard. The fingers need to stretch to the piano keys in the upper knuckle and then retract back into a round hand position. This allows for control and finger flexibility.
